We are starting our 1:1 this fall for our 6th graders. There are 44 of them. We are very excited!! We use Moodle for our LMS and wiziq for our online classroom. Any words for wisdom??

Hi Matt,
We have just received our proposal for our one to one for 4 of our schools for grades 8-12 and will be rolling out in August. I have been soaking up advice and talking with 3 other very small school districts like mine who have one to one or will be rolling out the same time as we do. I learned a lot at NECC to support our roll out from others who are in years 2,3, and 4. I am also working on a coop buy in program for small schools to reduce per student cost of some of the online learning solutions we would like to get. Being so small, some of the resources we which to purchase are just cost prohibitive.

Trevor, At the risk of being off on a tangent, I want to take up broader discussion which you may choose to ignore. I like all of the ideas you present, but not for the purpose of maintaining student focus. In my mind, education and education resea…

Thanks Richard. Yes, we too, have had numerous conversations comparing computer related distractions to the doodling and staring out of the window that we digital immigrants used to fill our school days with. What we are seeing with the tablets seem…

Trevor, We are in the 2nd year of our 1:1 pilot. Last year, 8th grade staff at 2 middle schools were given laptops and PD on 1:1. They developed lessons and learned about student centered pedagogy. Initially the pilot was going to provide laptop car…

If your teachers are already doing all of the things you mention in your question, then it seems to me that that the issue may not be so much one of needing to improve practice, but one of changing teacher expectations. What do the teachers mean by…

Sounds interesting Mike. Can you give me a little more information about your school and program, and I will see if there are some opportunities here at DE? We are a PK-12 Independent school located in Bergen County NJ, right outside NYC. We have…

Getting Started - 1 to 1 Schools

"irst of all, I must say I am extremely excited to receive these requests. Currently, less than ten percent of schools nationwide have one to one, and I think that is a sad statistic. Leaders of one to one schools and those currently making that transition are the trailblazers in education today. Their work has the potential to transform education in a way that hasn't happened in the past 100 years."
