We use an approach that is similar to Charles. We hire current students for the summer, and following the creation of a base image, we image all of the units before distribution. For the past couple of years we used Deploy Studio, and it worked well…

We have some tech staff on hand all summer and we hire some summer help (generally former students at home from college for summer) and we go through the following processes. We create our golden image for staff and student machines and use Deploy…

Sounds like a great strategy. Do you reformat them before distributing them? If so, how do you do all that without killing your tech guys?

Summer time battery storage. I read that Apple suggests storing batteries at a level near 50% capacity. What do you do with your laptop batteries in the summer?

Trevor, At the risk of being off on a tangent, I want to take up broader discussion which you may choose to ignore. I like all of the ideas you present, but not for the purpose of maintaining student focus. In my mind, education and education resea…

Thanks Richard. Yes, we too, have had numerous conversations comparing computer related distractions to the doodling and staring out of the window that we digital immigrants used to fill our school days with. What we are seeing with the tablets seem…

Trevor, We are in the 2nd year of our 1:1 pilot. Last year, 8th grade staff at 2 middle schools were given laptops and PD on 1:1. They developed lessons and learned about student centered pedagogy. Initially the pilot was going to provide laptop car…

If your teachers are already doing all of the things you mention in your question, then it seems to me that that the issue may not be so much one of needing to improve practice, but one of changing teacher expectations. What do the teachers mean by…

Sounds interesting Mike. Can you give me a little more information about your school and program, and I will see if there are some opportunities here at DE? We are a PK-12 Independent school located in Bergen County NJ, right outside NYC. We have…

Getting Started - 1 to 1 Schools

"irst of all, I must say I am extremely excited to receive these requests. Currently, less than ten percent of schools nationwide have one to one, and I think that is a sad statistic. Leaders of one to one schools and those currently making that transition are the trailblazers in education today. Their work has the potential to transform education in a way that hasn't happened in the past 100 years."
