- Just beginning a 1-1 programme here. Rolling out with one Year 5 class (9 year olds) this year as a 'trial'. Still a couple of growing pains with our new XServe (was at work till 8pm tonight) but going well so far. Hopefully easy to manage with one class rolling out first so we can highlight any issues and solve them fairly quickly before we move out larger scale. Any advice would be welcome!

Charles,
Could you discuss the type of alert system you use? Also, do you have a check in /check out rubric you wouldn't mind sharing. I do not have a copy of mine here at home, but will post it when I start back to work.

We don't condition all of them. We identify those that need conditioning (have no charge at all, not even a flashing light) and put them in our battery conditioning station. If any battery is less than 100% it goes into the battery charging stations. We have about 7 set up in our store room where the machines are being process by summer help (past students at home from college that we can trust, they ROCK!). Each unit has 2 reconditioning bays and 14 charging bays.
During our final check process the machines are pulled out of their bags, checked against our Help Desk for tickets, confirmed to be 'checked in' so our alert system won't trigger a lockdown on them, battery removed and charged/conditioned, equipment sent to repair if needed or organized for summer imaging/cleaning and for redistribution in August.
Our regular tech staff don't do much of this, it's the 'rogues' that do the grunt work ;-)

- Sounds like a great strategy. Do you reformat them before distributing them? If so, how do you do all that without killing your tech guys?

- We are fully charging all of our 2,100+ batteries and then removing them from the laptop (storing them in the carrying case) over the summer and they will be inserted again when the laptops are distributed.

Summer time battery storage. I read that Apple suggests storing batteries at a level near 50% capacity. What do you do with your laptop batteries in the summer?
